Our program for grades 1-5 this year is called Project Nazareth. Project Nazareth has two components: a weekly lesson for families to complete together throughout the week (about 10 minutes a day) and weekly Zoom sessions in which we dive deeper into the lesson. The lessons are based on the Mass readings for the following Sunday.

Dear Our Lady of Hope parishioners,

My name is Gabriela Twaalfhoven and I’m excited to continue as the religious education
coordinator for grades 1-5.

This year we will again participate in Project Nazareth. You can click on this link to learn more
about it:

If you choose to participate in our program ( and we hope you will!), we will send you a weekly
lesson each Monday that is based on the Mass readings for the following weekend. Throughout
the week you are asked to incorporate parts of the lesson ( prayers and activities) into your
family’s schedule. This would require a commitment of 5-10 minutes a day, depending on how
you choose to implement it. On Thursdays at 7PM ( or Saturdays at 9AM if you choose the
Saturday session) your child is asked to join us for a Zoom meeting (lasting about 30-40
minutes) to learn more about that week’s lesson.

While we would love to have more in-person meetings this year, we are treading lightly due to
safety protocols and rising numbers of infections. If things improve, we will be happy to have
occasional in-person meetings, but we don’t know when that will be!
If you look at the calendar that is attached, you will find that the Thursday sessions are circled in
green and the Saturday sessions are circled in blue. Attendance is strongly encouraged for
grades 3-5 and mandatory for grades 1 and 2, as First Communion will be offered in May for the
second graders who have faithfully participated in the program.

In Christ,
Gabriela Twaalfhoven

We cannot overemphasize the importance of Mass attendance as a family.
As the primary educators of their children, nothing better helps form young Catholics than the active participation of their parents.

First Communion:

  • First Communion preparation is a two-year process. To receive First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in 2nd grade, students must be registered and attending class and Mass regularly throughout grades 1 and 2.

  • Before receiving the sacrament of First Communion, Our Lady of Hope needs a baptismal certificate from any child who was not baptized at our parish.

  • First Holy Communion is held in the Spring.
